The newest edition, ISO/IEC 27000:2026 (Edition 6), shifts its focus toward providing a clearer overview of the ISMS ecosystem.
The update places greater emphasis on:
- Explaining the concepts behind Information Security Management Systems
- Clarifying how standards such as ISO/IEC 27001, ISO/IEC 27002, and ISO/IEC 27005 relate to one another
- Serving as a navigational guide across the ISO 27000 family instead of functioning primarily as a terminology reference
While organizations already certified under ISO/IEC 27001 do not face new certification requirements because of this publication, the revised ISO 27000 provides valuable context for professionals implementing, auditing, or governing an ISMS
